One of the best parts of summer for me, frankly, is this apple of love. Its color, smell, versatility, flavor. It is seductive, indulgent and gluttonous—and I love every bite of it. I remember when I was a child, my mother would cut up what seemed like hundreds of gorgeous tomatoes from her garden tossed with a little olive oil, dried basil and sliced onion. She and I would sit and eat the whole bowl together for lunch. Makes me smile just thinking about it.
