The Atlanta Botanical Gardens will kick off its Fresh Plate Series on Wednesday, May 15 from 6:30-8:30 as Lure’s own Executive Chef, David Bradley, will prepare a 4-part plating of his most popular dishes. These delicious fixings will be cooked in the Edible Outdoor Kitchen at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and will feature ingredients straight from the edible garden.
Chef David Bradley will prepare these small plates:
- Herb and lettuces salad with lime vinaigrette, pumpkin seeds and candied ginger
- Pan-fried soft shell crabs with green garlic tartar sauce
- Grilled spring Vidalia onions with buttermilk, smoked Georgia rainbow trout and dill
- Grilled Atlantic salmon with Lure’s bacon, oyster mushrooms, butterbeans and aged balsamic vinegar
The price is $54 per session for those who are not members of the ABG; the price is only $49 per session for members. This year’s Fresh Plate Series will run on the third Wednesday or fourth Tuesday of May through October.
Interested parties may only register over the phone by calling 404.876.5859 ext 2558. Registration is currently open, and closes one week before each session.
If you’ve ever spent any time parked on a bar stool at El Taco, more than likely you’ve been served a delicious libation by our popular bartender, Danny Kaufmann (pictured above). He’s quick with a smile and even quicker with an icy cold, perfectly made cocktail.
That’s why it makes such good sense that he’s been asked to step up and demonstrate his skills in this year’s Margarita Wars presented by Creative Loafing.
Danny will compete against 10 other talented mixologists at Park Tavern on Thursday, May 16, from 7-11PM to fight for the title of best margarita in town. And you can help him by coming down to cheer him on, sample the drinks of the contestants and cast your vote for the ones that best tingled your tongue. Tough job. Do I need to twist your arm? I didn’t think so.
Admission is $20 and includes six tasting tickets. If six isn’t enough (and I have a feeling it won’t be), additional ones will be available for purchase. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
In response to the overwhelming success of the Louisiana-style crawfish boil in April, South City Kitchen Vinings will host another crawfish boil on Thursday, May 23 from 5:30-7:00 for $30 per person plus tax and gratuity.
South City Kitchen Vinings will again serve a traditional, spicy crawfish boil, complete with corn on the cob, red bliss potatoes, and smoked sausage, and guests will dine at butcher paper-covered communal tables complete with red Solo cups, crackers, and hot sauce. The fresh crawfish are direct from Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, aka “Crawfish Capital of the World.”
What’s a crawfish boil without ice-cold beer? We’re happy to partner with the cool folks over at Monday Night Brewing again to ensure there will be ample specials on icy cold bottles of Fu Manbrew Belgian-Style Wit.
Here’s a glance of our last crawfish boil: Don’t let this one slip past you!

In a little bit of shameless self-promotion, I’m excited to share a few really great bits of recognition we have received recently.
These are just a few more reasons why I’m so proud to work for this wonderful company filled with amazing people who love what they do: making you happy.
First, Ecco‘s spectacularly delicious fried goat cheese with cracked black pepper and honey (pictured below) was named by Creative Loafing as one of the “Top 100 Dishes In Atlanta To Eat Before You Die.” (La Tavola’s spaghetti and veal meatballs were awarded this distinction, as well, in 2012.) If you’ve had them, you know why. If you haven’t, well, I don’t know what to say but go. NOW.

Next, Alma Cocina was included in AJC’s Spring Dining Guide: The Atlanta 50. You can even watch a video and hear in the food critic’s own words why it was chosen as a personal favorite among the group. Alma is one of the best reasons to journey south of North Avenue after 5pm. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
In addition, Alma was also named one of the 10 Greatest Mexican Restaurants in America by USA Today. Come see for yourself why Alma Cocina is the best Mexican restaurant in downtown Atlanta!

Thrillist Atlanta has also named El Taco and South City Kitchen Midtown two of the best restaurants in Atlanta. El Taco earned top marks in the Best Mexican category, and South City Kitchen Midtown took top honor with Best Brunch.
Lastly, having just come from Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 2013 Pacesetter Awards, I am thrilled to say that Fifth Group Restaurants was named the 50th fastest growing company in Atlanta out of the 100 honored. Considering the volatility of the economy over the past 6 years, this is quite an accomplishment and the direct result of a lot of hard work and dedication. Congratulations to everyone involved!
Fifth Group Restaurants partners Kris Reinhard, Robby Kukler and Steve Simon.
Of course, none of this would be possible without you, our guests. Thank you for your continued patronage and support. We know you have a myriad of dining options in the city, and we are truly grateful and appreciative every time you choose one of ours. Cheers!
